If you want an embittered socialist republican preaching his dismal lefty dogma at you and trying to sugar the whole chip-on-the-shoulder pill with sixth-form humour, then this is the book for you.
If you'd rather not, then find something else that is genuinely "impartial"

This book is as true and accurate as the alternative; the rubbish class based Conservative government curriculum I was taught in the 60's. Its a lot more fun and makes some serious points one might not otherwise make connections to.
I liked it and missed it when it was finished. I looked up a lot of references and formed my own opinion on O'Farrell's facts.
Its a provocative, well written book for adults and maybe children.

I bought this after a couple of recommendations from friends. A complete waste of money. I gave up after 100 pages. The best jokes, in fact the only ones which made me laugh, are the 1-2 liners in the introduction. He shows his political leanings far too often, and like Mike Harding ceases to be in the least funny at that point. Pity. I had high expectations. Unless you are a Guardian reader, don't bother.
